Founded in 1969, the Mason County Historical Society grew out of a community commitment to preserving the area’s history for future generations. Thanks to the foresight of its founding members, the Society now safeguards a rich collection of photographs, archival materials, and artifacts. Today, the museum and Historical Society continue to thrive through the generosity and involvement of our members and the community.
Our downtown Shelton museum houses an extensive archive of photographs, newspapers, letters, diaries, periodicals, and maps that bring Mason County’s past to life. The Society’s speaker's programs offer opportunities to explore local history, both at the museum and at historic sites throughout the county—from Hoodsport and Kamilche to Matlock, Lilliwaup to Belfair.
