The Mason County Historical Society was formed in 1969, when members of the community realized that the history of the area could easily be lost.  We are fortunate to have a wealth of photos, archives and artifacts because of their foresight.  The museum and historical society continue to flourish because of the support of our members and the community.

  • The mission of the Mason County Historical Society is to collect, preserve and publish the history of Mason County.

  • Our downtown museum maintains an extensive archive of historical materials, including photos, newspapers, letters, diaries, periodicals and maps.

  • Monthly programs of the Mason County Historical Society are held at the museum in downtown Shelton, and county-wide from Kamilche to Matlock, Lilliwaup to Belfair, where we visit historic sites and learn about Mason County history .
