The mission of the Mason County Historical Society is to collect, preserve and publish the history of Mason County.

The Mason County Historical Society was formed in 1969, when members of the community realized that the history of the area could easily be lost.  We are fortunate to have a wealth of photos, archives and artifacts because of their foresight.  The museum and historical society continue to flourish because of the support of our members and the community.

Our downtown museum maintains an extensive archive of historical materials, including photos, newspapers, letters, diaries, periodicals and maps.  Monthly programs of the Mason County Historical Society are held at the museum in downtown Shelton, and county-wide from Kamilche to Matlock, Lilliwaup to Belfair, where we visit historic sites and learn about Mason County history.
